Sadao Watanabe made his prints on two types of paper. The large prints on momigami, crumpled paper, and the smaller prints on washi.
Washi is the Japanese word for traditional made paper. 'Wa' means Japanese and 'shi' means paper. The washi used for the smaller prints is Kozo, paper made from the inner bark of the mulberry tree.
The smaller prints usually have a papersize of 9' x 13'. The images sometimes just show the printed area.
The prints presented in this part of The SadaoHanga Catalogue are not yet catalogued, so you will not see any numbering.
It has to be noticed that there are lifetime and posthumus editions of the washi prints. The posthumus prints have a stamped signature of Sadao Watanabe while the lifetime prints mostly are pencil signed.
